          2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/07/91.

          3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), ACTIVE
          COMPONENT, LOGISTICS, EQUIPMENT, TRANSPORTATION, RAIL MOVEMENT,

          4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: RAIL CAR SHORTAGE

          5. (U) OBSERVATION: Availability of railcars to support daily
          requirement was lacking.

          6. (U) DISCUSSION: During rail operations there was on
          occasions a shortage of cars to support the daily requirements.
          This was due to car turn around time from SPOE as indicated by
          railroad representatives. Division units also added equipment
          after the requirements were figured and passed to the railroad.

          7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: none


          S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: MTMC: Establish procedures at
          SPOE's allow for faster turn around time of railcars to sevicing
          railroads.
