PERSONNEL ISSUE NO. 1 Credentialing of Medical Personnel
(SGHR ITEMS NOs. 77, 102, 121, 139)
DISCUSSION: IMA, ANG, and AFRES physicians are credentialed differently. At
some MTFs providers were given provisional privileges, while at others they were
not allowed to practice until complete credentialing had been accomplished. No
planned guidance was available on credentialing providers at contingency
hospitals. ANG nurses who were civilian Primary Care Nurse Practitioners could
not be utilized in this capacity due to credentialing; Net loss of expertise
and need for more physicians
RECOMMENDATIONS: Pre-mobilization credentialing kit being developed by ANGRC;
use provisional credentialing to solve problem; once activation location is
known forward copies of current credentials ASAP.
HQ ARPC/SG could coordinate the transfer of credential folders when an IMA
is assigned to an MTF. Consistent policy needs to be developed.
Guidance be developed regarding credentialing of providers for
contingencies.
Arrange pre-mobilization credentialing or Nurse Practitioners despite their
Duty AFSC.
ACTIONS REQUIRED: ANGRC develop pre-mobilization credentialing kit; use
provisional credentialing. AFRES and ANG develop policy that will allow
utilization of Nurse Practitioners; Nurses will continue to be utilized as
clinical nurses and should maintain training or that function, new policy will
allow for their utilization as Nurse Practitioners if situations warrant.
ACTIONS COMPLETED: Pre-mobilization credentialing kit has been developed.
| AFRES/REM has issued policy where Nurse Practitioners will carry that specialty
as their secondary AFSC; ANG is following AFRES' lead.
STATUS: OPEN.
