                                     JULLS LONG REPORT

            1. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 10834-43086 (00394), Submitted by RILEY
            AFZN-PTM-C, SFC Brisley, 856-2225, (913)239-2225.

            2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 11/05/90.

            3. (U) KEYWORDS: REAL WORLD OPERATIONS, TRAINING, NBC, SUFFICIENCY.

            4. (U) TITLE: Opns: Training: Sufficient CS Chem Agent Powder for
            Mask Confidence Exerci

            5. (U) OBSERVATION: While FORSCOM directed a 100%
serviceability check of protective masks, many units had not
requested CS in their ammo forecasts.

            6. (U) DISCUSSION: Unless CS could be made easily available,
units would not be able to comply with FORSCOM directive.

            7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: GZ/NBC coordinated a consolidated draw
of CS powder, suspended the CS powder in melted paraffin wax,
and issued ice cube size wax "charges" of CS to units scheduled
            for mask confidence exercises.

            e. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: TRADOC: Publicize the lesson
learned as a viable means of extending insufficient CS stocks
            +or mask confidence exercises.

            9. (U) COMMENFTS: When a CS vapor is desired, wax charges are'
melted over sufficient heat in a CS chamber. Paraffin wax cubes
containing suspended CS powder simple improve handling with no
            degradation of efficacy.

                 (U) SUBJECT: OPERATIONS

                 (U) INTEROPERABILITY: TRAINING

                 (U) Lesson distributed by- CALL.
