                                    JULLS LONG REPORT

           1. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 30456-85634 (00059), submitted by RILEY
           AFZN-EN-YO, CPT WOODS, 856-4210, (913)239-4210.

              (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/06/91.

           3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), ACTIVE
           COMPONENT, LOGISTICS, EQUIPMENT, AVAILABILITY, INTEROPERABILITY,

           4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: Availability of Forklift

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: At the outset a+ the DACG mission, A
Company, 34th Engineer Battalion did not have access to a
           forklift.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION, It was not until approximately 2 weeks into
the operation that a forklift was provided by DOL for full time
use by the DACS (Rear). Up until that point, each time a
forklift was needed, the DACG (Rear) had to call vehicle
processing and have a civilian operator bring the forklift to
wherever it was needed. Needless to say, this became a
tremendous problem on weekends and nights.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: At the meeting held prior to the start
of the DACG mission, vehicle and equipment requirements must be
addressed so that by the time the first cargo must be uploaded,
the assets needed are in place. Decision makers at the Division
level must be willing to authorize lease of civilian equipment
rapidly based on recommendations from the DACG OIC.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: That planning -For future deployments
include a coordination meeting to identify DACG operational and
           support requirements.

           9. (U) COMMENTS: none
