                                   JULLS LONG REPORT

           1. (U) JULLS NUMBER: 31336-89383 (00127), submitted by RILEY
           AFZN-DL-S, N. WALKER, 656-3388, (913)239-3388.

           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/07/91.

           3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), ACTIVE
COMPONENT, GUARD COMPONENT, RESERVE COMPONENT, DEPLOYMENT, CONUS
MOVEMENT, LOGISTICS, SUPPLY, ACCOUNTABILITY, SUITABILITY, CRIT3
           (IMPORTANT PROBLEM), PLANNING.

           4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: BOXES FOR PERSONAL BELONGINGS

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Determining quantity of boxes required.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Units were required to submit requirements
for personal property storage boxes per an August 90 FRAGO. None
of the units submitted requirements. To make an estimate, DEH
was contacted for the number of Division and other deploying
unit personnel living in the barracks. Not included at that
time were personnel who sent their families home when the
Division was alerted and moved into the BEO. Also, not
considered were those who had leases that expired and moved into
the barracks or government quarters rather than renew the lease.
There were also replacement personnel who required boxes for
their personal belongings. In one case, a complete unit was
added. We originally estimated that each person would need two
of the smallest boxes and two of the next size. We anticipated
that one in every three would have a stereo or TV and that one
           wardrobe box would be enough.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: In the future, consideration must be
given to all categories of individuals when estimating the
that in the future, 1 1/2
           wardrobe boxes +or each individual, a TV-size box (37x23x3l)
for every other individual, and 3 small boxes (15xl2xlO) be
used for each individual be used as planning factors.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: UNIT COMMANDERS: When estimating
the number of boxes required for personal property storage of
soldiers living in the barracks, use the guidelines: 1 1/2
wardrobe boxes per individual; a TV-size box for every other
individual; and 3 small boxes per individual.

           9. (U) COMMENTS: none

               (U) INTEROPERABILITY: PLANNING

               (U) Lesson distributed by: LOCAL.
