           2. (U) Operation DESERT SHIELD conducted by USCENTCOM on 02/f)7/91.

           3. (U) KEYWORDS: RWO (REAL WORLD OPS), USA (US ARMY), ACTIVE
           COMPONENT, LOGISTICS, SUPPLY, TRANSPORTATION, CAPABILITY, SHORTAGE,
           CRIT3 (IMPORTANT PROBLEM).

           4. (U) TITLE. LOGISTICS: UNIT TRANSPORTATION ASSETS NOT ADEQUATE

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Units were often unable to pick up last
           minute Supplies.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: Units having appointments to pic@%-up
           boxes at the warehouse, MRE'S, laundry, etc., were sometimes
           unable to keep because they did not have the necessary
           transportation. Some units were sharing vehicles; other units
           had a vehicle, but it was required +or all of the errands. One
           unit used a school bus to pickup boxes. This was a time
           consuming task. Other units used their F'OVs and risked being
           refused access to the warehouse by the MPs. In some cases the
           vehicle was.too small and units had to make several trips to
           accomplish their pick-LIP.

           7. (U) LESSON LEARNED: Units be made more aware of last minute
           requirements and that appointments be established with this
           in mind. More vehicles should be made available or units be
           advised where vehicles are available.

           B. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: DOL TRANS: Plan for last minute or
           unscheduled pick-Ltps a+ supplies and provide adequate
           supplemental transportation thru contracts or leases.
