           AFKB-RG-FR, CPT KING, e56-3336, (913)239-3336.

           4. (U) TITLE: LOGISTICS: SHORTAGE OF TRANSPORTATION RESOURCES

           5. (U) OBSERVATION: Shortages of CONEX containers and MILVANS
           were experienced at mobilization station.

           6. (U) DISCUSSION: The shortage of CONEX containers and MILVANS
after the deployment of the Ist Infantry Division (M) affected
the deployment dates of the 410th Evacuation Hospital. Due to
this shortage, a commercial transportation company was contacted
to supply shipping containers and move the equipment. This
resulted in a lengthening of shipping time for the Ltnit's
vehicles and CTA deployable equipment. This raised the
potential of unit personnel being in Country 2-3 weeks before
the arrival of tentage and equipment necessary to house and feed
the unit. Because of this situation, ship dates and contractors
were renegotiated and deployment dates were again lengthened. It
was 69 days after being mobilized be-Fore the 410th Evacuation
Hospital deployed to the theater of operation. Similar
Situations took place with the 170th Maintenance Co., and the
           403rd F'W Camp.

's Must plan
           for RC unit transportation requirements.

           S. (U) RECOMMENDED ACTION: AUEL data for all deploying units
Must be compared with existing transportation resources at the
mobilization station. Units will continue to deploy and require
resources after the Ist ID (M) departs.

           9. (UY-COMMENTS: none
